Keene in New Hampshire is a historical place: they had the Washington Birthday celebration, and it’s not unusual for residents to show up at a Town Hall meeting to discuss their pro-liberty views.

The change in the four seasons is most impressive during fall when the leaves change color along the river. The open outdoor spaces with a mix of greens, yellows and different shades of orange foliage, makes Keene’s Ashuelot River a cool place to take a boat ride during fall.

Keene’s downtown district has an abundance of restaurants, stores and services. The colonial style buildings give it a New England flare that adds life to the area. Stroll through Central Square, which is only minutes from downtown, and visit the shops or restaurants. See a live show at the Colonial Theatre, which is within easy walking distance of Central Square.
Check out Cheshire Rail Trail, the trail with a northern segment that runs from Keene to other parts of New Hampshire. Walking along this trail you will see the Ashuelot River, and from there you can continue along the pedestrian bridge above the freeway. You’ll continue to travel through the woods and in the fall the beautiful colorful leaves are a delight for walkers or cyclists. Along the roads, there is parking at different points along the trail.
Locals go to the skate park to test their skateboard skills, but it’s a great recreational place to check out while in Keene. Stop by to check out the skateboarders and watch as the BMX bikers show off their tricks!. Families come to Stonewall Farm to go hiking, see the animals and learn about nature. Keene residents enjoy sports and are big on baseball, soccer, and softball games. The Sentinel newspaper cover sports and keeps everyone updated on the latest news about local teams. Whether it’s the Phantoms Soccer players, the regional softball teams, or the Keene Swamp Bats baseball team, visitors and residents can come together to see a game.

Keene has a variety of restaurants and cuisines whether you like Mediterranean food, all-American food, Thai food, or Italian. Downtown Keene has a lot of restaurants and shops on Main Street and throughout other areas of the city, and diners can find both high-end and affordable options. Pizza is a commonplace, and if ordering Mediterranean pizza, you can have a choice of many different toppings other than the usual pepperoni.

One great thing about Keene is the fun-filled festivals for every season when people come together to enjoy activities and play games. The winter brings the ice and snow festival where people ice-skate and view the beautiful ice sculptures.
